“The mansion in which they lived [had] every convenient appendage necessary on an extensive and well cultivated farm.” — Lucy Mack Smith1
In December 1827, Joseph and Emma moved to Emma's childhood home and farm in Harmony, Pennsylvania.2 At first, they lived inside the house (which Lucy Mack called a "mansion") with Emma's parents,3 but the couple eventually built their own home within the farm's boundaries on a plot the Hale family had given them.4 While living there, Joseph started translating the Book of Mormon and accomplished most of the process.5 Many other important peices of the Restoration happened near the Hale farm, including the restoration of the Aaronic Priesthood, Joseph and Oliver Cowdery's baptisms,6 and the restoration of the Melchizedek Priesthood.7
