"And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation." — Helaman 5:121
Jesus Christ is the firstborn Son of God the Father. During the premortal existence, he volunteered to be our Savior and to take upon Himself the sins and sufferings of mankind.2
The Savior was born in Bethlehem and comes from the lineage of David (which has included Boaz, Ruth, Jesse, and Bathsheba). He most likely spoke and taught in Galilean Aramaic, the more common language, instead of Hebrew.3 He began His ministry at age 30, teaching principles of love, forgiveness, and charity and performing miracles like healing the sick and raising the dead.4 He was called by many names, including the Morning Star,5 Rock of Heaven,6 and Lion of Judah.5
At the end of His mortal ministry, the Savior completed the atonement and laid down his life. He then overcame death and was resurrected.7 He taught his disciples for a time and went to visit and teach the people in the Americas.7 Then, in the spring of 1820, God the Father and Jesus appeared to Joseph Smith during a sacred vision.8
