“Moses appeared before us, and committed unto us the keys of the gathering of Israel from the four parts of the earth, and the leading of the ten tribes from the land of the north. After this, Elias appeared, and committed the dispensation of the gospel of Abraham, saying that in us and our seed all generations after us should be blessed. After this vision had closed, another great and glorious vision burst upon us; for Elijah the prophet, who was taken to heaven without tasting death, stood before us. ” — Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery1

On Easter Sunday, April 3, 1836, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery experienced profound visions in the Kirtland Temple, Ohio. This event occurred in the temple's lower court behind veiled curtains after administering the sacrament to the congregation.2

As they prayed fervently, the Savior appeared and affirmed the temple’s dedication.3 The Lord declared His acceptance of the temple, promising an outpouring of blessings and divine manifestations. Following the Savior's visit, the ancient prophets Moses, Elias, and Elijah appeared one after another, each bestowing vital priesthood keys upon Joseph and Oliver.3

Moses committed the keys of the gathering of Israel, pivotal for the mission of gathering the Saints and leading them to Zion. Elias entrusted them with the dispensation of the Gospel of Abraham, emphasizing the eternal blessings and covenants tied to Abraham's lineage. Lastly, Elijah conferred the keys related to sealing authority, which would bind families across generations.3
