“I was awoke by Brother Davis knocking at my door saying, ‘Brother Joseph come [get] up and see the signs in the heavens,‘ and I arrose and beheld to my great Joy the stars fall from heaven yeah they fell like hail stones; a litteral fullfillment of the word of God as recorded in the holy scriptures and a sure sign that the coming of Christ is [close] at hand. Oh how marvellous are thy works Oh Lord and I thank thee for they mercy unto me they servent. Oh Lord save me in thy kingdom for Christ sake Amen” — Joseph Smith1
In November 1833, a stunning meteor shower provided solace to the Saints in Missouri. Philo Dibble, witnessing the event from his home, felt a miraculous surge of healing. The spectacle also uplifted Edward Partridge and his daughter Emily, who saw the shower as a divine affirmation amidst their suffering.2
In Kirtland, a friend woke Joseph Smith, who linked the event to biblical prophecies of the Second Coming. Profoundly moved, Joseph prayed in gratitude and awe, interpreting the stars as a sign from God.2
This meteor shower is an annual shower, given the scientific name of Leonids.3
