Trivia Correction: The answer to trivia question #4 has been updated from Answer D (24) to Answer B (Six).*
“Hyrum [Smith] officiated with twenty-three other priesthood holders as the corner stones of the Lord‘s House were laid in Kirtland, after the order of the Holy priesthood.” — George A. Smith1
On July 23, 1833, the Saints laid the cornerstones of the Kirtland Temple, just as the mobs were forcing the Missouri Saints to leave Jackson County.2 Unlike modern temples, the principal cornerstone was laid first rather than last. Although it was customary for the cornerstone of buildings in this era to be laid beginning at the northeast corner, the first or "chief" cornerstone of the Kirtland Temple was laid in the southeast corner because there was the most light.3
Hyrum Smith presided over the whole process while six brethren officiated at each of the four corners.1 Because there were not enough Church officers present to lay the cornerstones, some teenage boys were ordained elders.3
