“I felt such a desire to read [the Book of Mormon], that I could not refrain from asking him to let me take it home.” — Mary Rollins1
Mary Elizabeth Rollins, born on April 9, 1818, in Lima, New York, moved to Kirtland, Ohio, in 1828. She was baptized in October 1830 in Kirtland. In 1831, her family relocated to Independence, Missouri.2 During a mob attack on the Saints’ printing office, 15-year-old Mary and her sister Caroline saved pages of the Book of Commandments by hiding them in a cornfield.3 This brave act preserved vital Church revelations that were later printed as the Doctrine and Covenants.4
